Starting Yoga

Welcome! Yoga is fun AND it is good for you - what more could you ask for?

Developed over 6000 years ago, this ancient practice includes physical postures and breathing exercises, as well as meditation and philosophy. Yoga is a dynamic and constantly evolving system of self-care that encompasses all aspects of your being. It is an awesome physical practice that develops flexibility, strength, balance and poise. It is also a powerful mental and spiritual discipline that helps you become more centered and joyful. It can be both serious work and fun play; inward focused and also a great way to be in community.

We offer classes for all levels of ability; no one is too young, too old or too stiff to begin yoga and enjoy its healing and empowering benefits!

5 Ways to get started at our Center

1) Enroll in our next Introduction to Yoga Series. Introduction to Yoga 1 is for those entirely new to yoga. Yoga Fundamentals is for students who have had some yoga experience, but want to explore the fundamentals. Each six week session will introduce you to the basic principles, philosophy and postures of Anusara-Inspired™ Yoga and will provide a safe and comfortable transition into ongoing daily classes. We teach the fundamentals at a gentle, but challenging and enjoyable pace. Registration in the series also gives you membership which includes unlimited attendance to any of our other ongoing weekly classes at the Center. If you have questions, call us (978-463-4354) or email us at center@newburyportyoga.com. To sign up, email us to reserve your spot, then download the registration forms and send them to the Center.

2) If you cannot do either of the Introduction to Yoga Series now, you can begin attending any of our ongoing Gentle or All Levels Yoga classes. We do recommend that you eventually take the Introduction to Yoga series because it teaches the principles of Anusara-Inspired™ yoga sequentially and comprehensively, but getting started is the important first step! If you take this route, please:

3) Take private classes with any of our instructors.

4) If you have physical challenges, illness or injury, or just want to take it slowly try our ongoing Easy Does It or Chair-Supported Yoga classes.

5) If you are pregnant, try our Prenatal classes as listed in the current schedule as there are special considerations for your changing body.
We look forward to seeing you! Please feel free to call or email with any questions.
