On Saturday, January 21st, we opened our doors to friends and interested others, in the Yoga Center of Newburyport's opening celebration, a wonderful afternoon of Yoga, movement, meditation and food!  We couldn't have asked for better weather -- 35 degrees and sunny -- nor should we have been required to, after postponing our first attempt at housewarming due to 3 feet of snow the previous weekend.

If you couldn't join us, or if you wish to look back at a warm day among friends, follow us through some parts of our day together.

Members of the community, teachers and practitioners, pitched in to fill our tables with good food, and the corners of our space with color.  Balloons for the street, for the Center, for the head...

... while Leigh Snow straightens up the sanctuary, folding new blankets. Friends decorated our beautiful new foyer with flowers.
Our table of scheduled events and class descriptions filled to the brim, waiting for the first arrivals, and our other tables filled with food, drinks and sweets.  Yoga Teacher Jen has a taste test.

After a few hours' scurrying, everything is ready to go -- sunlight fills the sanctuary where it waits to be filled with an afternoon of music and movement, while Yoga Teacher Abi polishes off a few knitted rows.

Full house! Great to see so many old friends (and new ones!) come through the door.  Lucky we added more hooks to our wall... meanwhile, the boot collection mounted, as visitors made their way through to the sanctuary, where they sampled the Center's classes.

Family Yoga, with Teacher Alison, led off the day -- to the delight of the Center's younger members, such as newly-registered student Isabela.

Teachers Rose and Joan followed up with demostrations of their Easy Does It and Howe To Move classes.

The second part of the afternoon was an hour (or so) of intermediate yoga, led by a medley of Center teachers: Abi, Jen, Nick, Leigh and Manny.

A great, fun group of people made our large sanctuary into a cozy practice space. The teachers handed the Yoga Baton one to another, to rounds of applause!

Teachers Susan Van Note and Tom McFadden then upped the temperature with their Power and Dynamic yoga classes.

Then the movement teachers took the floor: at left, Center Teacher Kristi leads fifteen minutes of Nia workout to an enthusiastic group of young and old.

Finally Center Teacher Mark gave a brief introduction to his Kundalini Active Meditation series...

... and welcomed in the Kirtan (community chant), led by Prajna Lisa Hallstrom: "This place has great acoustics!"  We made the place ring with our voices.

They say the best guitars are those whose strings have sounded their wood for years, until the fibers of the wood itself have opened to the vibration. these old walls got a good taste of new music tonight!
